I have been involved in hydrotherapy since 1991, setting up and developing the service at the Royal Liverpool Children's and Community Services Trust (Alder Hey Hospital), then in 1996 after moving to London, working in hydrotherapy pools at Putney Hospital for Neurodisability, Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, University College London Hospitals and the Middlesex Adolescent Unit. I have worked for Tadworth Children's Trust for children with profound multiple learning and physical disabilities and teach at the children's hospice in Guildford. In addition I teach hydrotherapy for children, adolescents and adults with a range of rheumatological, musculoskeletal, neurological, congenital and medical complaints.

I completed and received a merit in the 4 week residential Bath Hydrotherapy course for physiotherapists in 1993, and have since organised courses and taught hydrotherapy to adult and paediatric physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants /technicians, teachers, PDA’s, LSA’s, SSA’s, support staff and carers in schools, hospitals, day center and community services, private homes and pools. I have lectured on the subject locally, nationally and internationally over recent years. I completed the first and only RCT looking at the effects of hydrotherapy in JIA, and piloted the effectiveness of hydrotherapy in improving shoulder ROM and upper limb function in subjects with increased muscle tone, and it’s potential as a medium for intensive interaction. I received the Robert Williams award for meritorious papers at the world congress of physiotherapy for my work in hydrotherapy (part of my PhD). I developed an educational motor curriculum launched at the conference for learning in London in 2006.

I have recently produced and directed DVD’s demonstrating Hydrotherapy techniques for use with children and adults with special needs or neurological disabilities. I am currently developing further DVD’s covering the basic foundation principles and exercises in water for children and adults with a range of musculo-skeletal, rheumatological and neurological conditions that can be treated in water.

I also design and deliver a range of courses tailor made to meet the training needs of healthcare and educational staff and services.

In November 2009 I hosted hosted the Aquaepps Study Day on 'Advanced Aquatic Therapy for Adults and Children with Special Needs', at the Institute of Child Health London. This attracted professionals from the medical and education services. A further conference is planned for Summer 2011.
